Julia Matarazzo, originally from Argentina, runs a very successful interior design company based in Norway. Sergio Téllez is a designer at La Tartana Design, the Marbella interior design company borne out of the life long career and legacy of Jaime Parladé. Together they embarked on a 22-month restoration project of one of the most sizeable beach side villas in the area of Puente Romano in Marbella. As the project came to its conclusion, they asked me to shoot it for them.
Sergio had transformed the property from an older style property of Roman Italian qualities, to a more open and lighter design, communicating different spaces with elegantly shaped arches. Julia decorated the villa with warm textures and beautifully designed tiles, creating a milieu that tastefully combines both Andalusian and Norwegian decor. The full body of photographs needed to capture both the key architectural features created by Sergio and Julia’s interior design work, so it was important to work very closely with both.
Scouting the property together with Julia and Sergio, we crafted a shoot list designed to satisfy all requirements, and after that we spent a long day arranging furniture, styling, and shooting. The greatest difficulty for the photographer when shooting projects like this, is that you have the potential for a great picture almost anywhere you set down the camera. So, setting priorities become as key task. This is of course a really good problem to have, and one that I believe we tackled well.
